Chemistry uses \ce{...} - the standard mhchem notation from the LaTeX world. Subscripts, ion charges, reaction and equilibrium arrows, state symbols, precipitate and gas markers and hydrate dots all render automatically, with element symbols set upright, the way chemistry convention requires. Word has no shortcut for any of this.

Writing isotope notation in Word - the mass number and atomic number stacked before the element symbol - normally means fighting the equation editor's prescript template for every single nuclide. Here it's just text: type \ce{^{238}_{92}U} and get 23892U as a native equation. Whole decay chains become one line of typing.
